Ice Ornament

4-6 year olds | two hours

Decorate the pine trees or other trees in your backyard with this sparkly craft.

What You'll Need

  • pie pan (aluminium)
  • wire or string
  • pinecones
  • needles
  • bark, leaves, seeds, shells, dried flowers and berries

Instructions

1. Take an adventure with your little one out into the backyard. Scavenge for natural objects like those listed above. The more colourful, the better!
2. When inside, lay out the natural objects you’ve collected. Let you child arrange them in the pie pan to their liking.
3. Take a piece of string and put both ends in the pan as well. Leave a loop hanging off the edge of the pan.
4. Fill the pan with water.
5. If it’s cold enough, put the pan outside. If not, put the pan in the freezer.
6. When the water in the pie pan is frozen through, remove the ice block from the pan.
7. Head outside with your little one and find a sturdy branch on which to hang your new ornament (near a window!)
8. Head back inside and watch the ornament sparkle in the sunlight.
