Paper Bead Jewellery

7-10 year olds | one hour

Make colourful and unique jewellery with these paper beads! This activity takes an hour, but once you start making beads, you may become addicted.

What You'll Need

  • magazines, newspapers, other kinds of paper
  • scissors
  • glue
  • pencil
  • string

Instructions

1. Cut the paper into long triangular strips.
2. Loop the wide end of the triangle around the pencil. Glue the wide end of the paper to the rest of the strip to keep it in place. Make sure not to glue the paper to the pencil.
3. Run the glue along the rest of the strip, keeping it very thin.
4. Twist the paper strip up, always rolling on top of the paper, never touching the pencil.
5. When you have reached the end, put a dab of glue on the point. Press down to keep the bead secure.
6. Once the glue dries, remove the bead from the pencil.
7. Make as many as you want. When you're finished, pull a string through all the beads and tie for a bracelet or necklace (depending on wrist size, bracelets may only take eight beads).
