Papier-Mâché Octopus

7-10 year olds | two hours

Have fun with "creepy, crawly critters." This simple papier-mâché octopus is perfect for your decoration or your imagination!

What You'll Need

  • A round balloon
  • Newspaper
  • Flour-water glue
  • Pan and stirrer
  • Tempera paint
  • Paint brush
  • Paint paper streamers
  • Glue
  • Black marker
  • Googly eyes (optional)

Instructions

  1. Tear newspaper strips about 1-inch wide.
  2. Blow and tie a round balloon.
  3. Dip strips of newspaper into flour-water glue.
  4. Wrap the newspaper strips around the entire top balloon. Make two or three layers. After each layer, let it dry overnight.
  5. Pop the balloon and throw it away.
  6. Paint the papier-mâché ball, and let it dry.
  7. Glue on googly eyes or draw them on.
  8. Cut eight legs from paper streamer and glue them to the base of the ball.
  9. Your papier-mâché octopus is now ready to display!
