Papier-Mâché Piggy Bank

7-10 year olds | two hours

Help your child be creative and money saving with this paper mache piggy bank.

What You'll Need

  • Balloon
  • Newspaper
  • Paper egg carton
  • Masking tape
  • Flour-water glue
  • Pink paint
  • Brush
  • Pink pipe cleaner
  • Craft knife
  • Plastic googly eyes (optional)
  • Markers


1. Blow up a balloon.

2. Tear strips of newspaper 1-inch in width.

3. Dip newspaper strips into flour-water glue and wrap around the balloon.

4. Repeat for at least two or three layers. Let each layer dry overnight.

5. Pop and remove the balloon. The paper mache is the body and head of the pig.

6. Add legs and a snout by separating five paper egg carton sections. Use masking tape to attach them to the body.

7. Paint your pig and let it dry.

8. Create features such as the tail (punch hole and insert pipe cleaner), googly eyes, nostrils (marker) and the money slot (cut a slot).

9. Save up with your piggy bank!
