Pin Up Wall Fan

11-14 year olds | half hour

Use wallpaper scraps to make this fan decoration.

What You'll Need

  • wallpaper pieces (70 cm long by 25 cm wide is a good rule of thumb)
  • hot glue gun
  • ribbon
  • glitter (optional)
  • sequins (optional)
  • clothespin
  • hole punch

1. Fold your wallpaper strip in 1.25 cm pleats. Make sure to fold each pleat the same width. Take your time to line up each pleat as you fold.
2. When all pleats are folded, secure the bottom of the wallpaper with a clothespin.
3. Fan out the upper part of the wallpaper, making a half-moon shape.
4. Once pleats are spaced appropriately for a fan, flip over.
5. Using the glue gun, glue the pleats where they come together, near the bottom of the fan to secure it and keep it permanently in position.
6. Once dry, remove clothespin.
7. Punch a hole in the bottom of the fan, through all layers.
8. Weave one or many ribbons through the hole. If using multiple ribbons, twist or braid once through the hole for decoration.
9. If you’d like, glue sequins or sprinkle glitter on the front of your fan for colour.
10.  Pin or tape to a wall. Enjoy!
