Popcorn Mosaics

7-10 year olds | one hour

Use a simple solution to dye your popcorn. Use the multi-coloured popcorn as a muse to create uniquely textured mosaics. Display your mosaics or even eat them when you’re done.

What You'll Need

  • popped popcorn
  • sweet condensed milk
  • food colouring
  • small paintbrush
  • paper
  • pencil
  • colouring sheets

Instructions

1. Mix sweet condensed milk in a small bowl with one or two drops of food colouring. Make as many different coloured ‘paints’ as you want.
2. Using small paintbrush, paint each popped piece of popcorn. Don’t fret about being precise, just splash some colour on every piece!
3. Using your favourite colouring sheets or book, place different colours of popcorn in different areas, ‘colouring in’ the outline to make a mosaic.
4. Alternatively, trace your own creations on a blank sheet of paper and place popcorn on.
5. To make the mosaic permanent, glue popcorn pieces onto the paper. Another way to enjoy your creation is to simply eat up the sweetened popcorn. Make some mosaics permanent and eat your mistakes (note: avoid eating glued pieces).
